MP35N® is a remarkable alloy composed of Nickel, Cobalt, Chromium, and Molybdenum, boasting extraordinary tensile strength and outstanding resistance to corrosion. Additionally, this alloy demonstrates commendable ductility and toughness, coupled with exceptional protection against sulfidation, high-temperature oxidation, and hydrogen embrittlement.

General Data

MP35N's remarkable strength is mostly due to the mechanical working, which can be accomplished through rolling, extruding, drawing, or swaging. This alloy also exhibits exceptional corrosion resistance to stress corrosion cracking at elevated mechanical properties.

Nickel and cobalt based alloys can be difficult to machinine. However, it should be emphasized that these alloys can be machined using conventional production methods at satisfactory rates. These alloys harden rapidly, generate high heat during cutting, weld to the cutting tool surface and offer high resistance to metal removal because of their high shear strengths. The following are key points which should be considered during machining operations:

  • MP35N is difficult to machine in any of the elevated mechanical properties.
  • MP35N is generally easier to machine than Waspaloy®, a similar NiCoCr alloy with similar machining setups.


  • MP35N can be TIG welded similar to Type 304 stainless.
  • Passes should be adjusted ensuring low heat input per pass.
  • The highest joint efficiency comes from welding the annealed condition.
  • If using a filler metal, then use the same composition.
